Historic South Queensferry waterfront houses along the shore of the Firth of Forth

Step outside into South Queensferry’s historic High Street. Cafés, restaurants, the harbour and the shore are close by, with the Firth of Forth providing an ever-changing backdrop.

Slow down by the water

Take a High Street wander, pause for coffee or pastries, and follow the waterfront towards Hawes Pier. A book and a quiet afternoon watching the bridges can be just as good a plan.

Explore a little further

Cross to North Queensferry by train, plan a coastal walk or look into a seasonal boat trip on the Forth. Edinburgh’s museums, galleries, shopping and historic streets are within reach by public transport.

From bright mornings to dramatic evening skies, there is always something to watch over the water. The Northern Lights are an occasional treat, never a promise.

A village with character

South Queensferry has its own distinctive traditions. The Burry Man procession is part of the Ferry Fair in August; the waterfront also hosts the New Year’s Day Loony Dook.

Getting here & planning your stay

Leave the car behind

Bus stops are about a two-minute walk from the front door. Service 43 connects South Queensferry with Edinburgh, and Dalmeny Station is uphill from the village.

Use Lothian Buses and ScotRail for current journeys. A pre-booked taxi can be convenient for airport travel or heavy luggage.
